Romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is a variety of lettuce with tall, dark green leaves. It is a descendant of the wild lettuce and is considered to have propagated from the island of Kos, which is why it’s also known as “cos lettuce”. It is the ideal base for everyday salads and is quite resistant to high temperatures (grilling or sautéing) as compared to other categories of lettuce. It is considered an excellent choice a low-calorie diet, and it is a rich source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

It is planted throughout the year and harvested 60-80 days after seeding.
