BARBA STATHIS and Prolepsis Institute research vegetable intake among children and adolescents
BARBA STATHIS is collaborating with Prolepsis Institute with the goal of mapping the eating habits of children in Greece. At the heart of this joint effort is a vision to promote the nutritional value of vegetables, boost vegetable intake, and create healthy eating habits from the early stages of childhood.
The results from the research indicate that family and school play an active role as the core shapers of children's nutritional habits. At the same time, the impact of the social environment and the influence food companies can have through innovative commercial practices are equally significant.
To corroborate the data obtained in the first phase of the research, a participatory approach was adopted in which parents, guardians, teachers and children took part in discussion groups focused on the intake of vegetables, their place in daily nutrition, and the factors that positively or negatively affect their consumption. The findings confirmed that vegetables are an integral part of the weekly meal plan in Greek households, highlighting the efforts made by parents to provide nutritious meals for their children. At the same time, children seem to prefer certain vegetables and seek new ways of consuming them, a phenomenon that becomes even more pronounced in adolescence.
BARBA STATHIS, a leading company in the sector, commits to the optimum use of the above results within the framework of its corporate responsibility strategy, aiming to consistently develop even more initiatives for creating balanced nutritional habits in children.
