BARBA STATHIS’ CEO Joins Cantina Academy
The CEO of BARBA STATHIS, Mr. Michalis Chamalelis, participated in the 4th Cantina Academy, organized by Proto Thema and Cantina in collaboration with the Municipality of Central Makedonia. The central theme of the event was “Tradition, Identity, Sustainability: Thessaloniki as a European Gastronomic Destination.”
As part of the panel discussion titled “Primary Production and Food Exports: The Strength of Central Macedonia,” Mr. Chamalelis addressed the challenges and opportunities currently shaping the agri-food sector. He emphasized the need to further enhance the quality of raw materials, highlight the distinct Greek identity of products, and reinforce the pivotal role of Central Macedonia as a dynamic production hub.
The discussion also underscored the importance of a comprehensive strategic plan to strengthen the competitiveness of Greek food products in international markets, leveraging innovation and modern cultivation practices.
Mr. Chamalelis placed particular focus on contract farming, noting that it is a proven and effective model. By offering stability to producers, ensuring high product quality and traceability, and supporting the outward growth of Greece’s agri-food sector, contract farming plays a vital role in sustainable development.
In addition, participants explored the opportunities created through the adoption of technology, innovation, green investments, modern agricultural practices, and lifelong education and training for producers, all aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of Greek products.
